The palace is open every day except Tuesdays ; January 1st, May 1st, and December 25th.
- October to March : 9:30AM-5:00PM (last entry at 4:15PM).
- April to September : 9:30AM-6:00PM (last entry at 5:15PM).
The Ballroom closes at 4:00PM October to March and at 5:00PM April to September.

The Chinese Museum may be closed between 11:30am and 2:30pm
A complete visit of the castle takes an estimated 2 hours.

Self-guided Tours

Individuals may visit the château’s Grands Appartements, which include the Papal Apartments, the Sovereign’s Apartment, and the Emperor’s Inner Apartments without a tour guide. This visit, including the Francis I Gallery and the Throne Room, will take approximately two hours.

Audio guides are available until 3.30pm in winter and 4.30pm in summer.

You can complete your visit with a tour of the gardens ; there is a French-style garden, the Grand Parterre, and two English-style gardens, the Jardin de Diane and the Jardin Anglais.

The private apartments of the Emperor Napoleon I and the Empresses Josephine and Marie Louise.

Second Empire-related rooms
These rooms and theatre from the second empire will allow you to walk in the shoes of Emperor Napoleon III and his wife Empress Eugenie.

On arrival, please consult the noticeboard at the château entrance, or call from 9:30am onwards on the day of your visit to find out the day’s schedule of events.

Themed visits and family visits (advance booking required)

Themed visits allow you to gain deeper insight into the château, covering such areas as the arts, historical figures, lifestyles and traditions.

Storytelling visits, workshops and dramatised visits offer entertaining ways for everyone to find out more about the château.
