Marie Antoinette’s Bed

Marie Antoinette’s Bed, by Sené and Laurent

The bed for the chamber of the queen and empress was made specially for the room by Sené and Laurent under the direction of Hauré in 1787. Although made for Marie Antoinette herself, she never actually used it. In 1805, the decision was made to give it to Empress Josephine. For this occasion the wooden panels were adorned with brocaded silk chenille fabric woven by Gaudin, finished by Savourin and acquired by the royal furniture depository in 1790.
