The Galerie des Cerfs (Gallery of Stags)

Decorated in Henry IV’s time with bird’s eye view pictures of the royal châteaux and their hunting grounds, the Galerie des Cerfs, as its name suggests, is decorated with plaster stag heads mounted with real antlers. Since the 1960s, it has housed great antique sculptures from the Vatican, cast by Primaticcio for Francis I in Italy ; the bronzes were cast at Fontainebleau itself.
