New ways to experience the chateau

Guided evening visit : “A summer night in the courtyard”

During this guided tour, visitors will become guests of the French court! Discover the gardens at nightfall, stroll in iconic rooms of the chateau, and discover hidden spaces in a unique atmosphere.

This guided tour is available in French. 

Duration: 2 hours

From July 8th to July 31st every Thursday and Saturday at 21h.

Price: for individuals younger than 26: 11 € in addition to the price of entry. For individuals 26 and older: 13 € in addition to the price of entry.

Guided tour: “Secret Fontainebleau”

Come discover historical rooms normally closed to the public, like Apartment 49! Explore these hidden spaces and dive into real “secrets of history”.

This guided tour is available in French. 

Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Everyday except Tuesday at 14h15. Beginning July 8th: at 14h15 and 16h15. (Hours subject to change).

Price: for individuals younger than 26: 5 € in addition to the price of entry. For individuals 26 and older: 7 € in addition to the price of entry.

Guided tour: “The chateau seen from the gardens”

From the Oval Courtyard (la cour Ovale) to the Courtyard of Honor (la cour d’Honneur), visitors will discover the major steps of the construction of the chateau and its gardens, their evolution throughout the centuries and the technical challenges that archichects confronted.

This guided tour is available in French. 

Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Beginning July 1st, everyday except Tuesday at 12h. (Hours subject to change).

Price: for individuals younger than 26: 5 € in addition to the price of entry. For individuals 26 and older: 7 € in addition to the price of entry.

Accompanied visits on the theme of the Renaissance

A facilitator will guide you through the chateau’s Ballroom and the Duchess of Etampes’ room, as well as through the exhibition, “La renaissance de la Renaissance”. This exhibition invites you to discover the restoration of the most emblematic of Bellifontaine decors: the Ballroom, designed by painter Jean Alaux at the request of Louis-Philippe in 1834, the restoration of which is chronicled in a series of showcases below the frescoes of Fontainebleau’s artistic masters.

This presentation is available in French. 

Available during your visit, and included in the price of entry at no additional charge.

Discover the chateau with your family

Build a Lego chateau!

This creative workshop will allow apprentice architects to participate in the construction of a mock-up of the chateau out of Legos. Attendees will discover the major steps of the construction of the chateau through the centuries and according to the desires of the monarchs who lived there.

Workshop facilitated in French. 

Recommended for children 8 years old and over.

Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Starting on July 10th, every Saturday and Sunday at 10h30, 13h30 and 15h30.

Price: 7€ in addition to the price of entry.

A visit for families : An investigation at the chateau

The home of the Emperor is preparing to welcome the new empress Marie-Louise of Austria who is visiting “the true home of kings, the house of ages” for the first time. For the occasion, the sword of the Sacre, adorned with the most beautiful of diamonds, “the Regent”, will be put on display for all to see. Taking advantage of the festivities and excitement, someone steals this precious treasure! Who orchestrated the theft? Vidocq, future chief of the Security Police, is charged with solving the mystery. Will he succeed in finding the stolen gem before the arrival of the Emperor with your help as fellow detectives?

The Night of Museums

Discover the Chateau of Fontainebleau, open exceptionally at night, during the Night of Museums!

Saturday, July 3rd from 19h to midnight (latest admission at 23h).

Festival of the American Schools of music and fine arts

From July 4th until July 31st, the American Schools of music and fine arts of Fontainebleau (les Écoles d’arts américaines de Fontainebleau) are celebrating their 100 year anniversary! Their melodies will echo in the Jardin Anglais. Conferences, guided tours, and musical promenades will set the pace throughout the month of July. A special performance by Marth Argerich will take place in the Oval Courtyard (la cour Ovale) on July 21st.

Includes concerts and conferences both free and paid.

Django Reinhardt Festival 

From July 1st to July 4th, numerous famous artists will perform in the Prairie du Bois d’Hyver in the park of the Chateau of Fontainebleau. 

Come enjoy these exceptional concerts! 

On the program: Ibrahim Maalouf, Thomas Dutronc, Catherine Ringer, and a special “carte blanche” performance by Stochelo Rosenberg.

Guided tour of the Petits Appartements

Tours of these private apartments, available on weekends, immerse visitors in the intimate lives of Napoléon Ier and empresses Joséphine and Marie-Louise, and includes an exceptional discovery of the newly restored Library of the Emperor.

The chateau

The chateau is open every day except Tuesday, January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.
From October to March: 9:30 am to 5:00 pm (last access at 4:15 pm).
From April to September: 9.30 am to 6 pm (last access at 5.15 pm).

Following the recent government announcements, a valid health pass is necessary to enter the chateau for all visitors 18 years old and older. The gardens and courtyards are accessible without green pass or valid health pass. Visitors 11 years old and older must wear a mask. The Chateau of Fontainebleau looks forward to welcoming you for your visit while respecting the health measures put into place (except the Chinese Museum, closed until further notice).
