The CRES provides researchers with files on the castle’s works and spaces.
There are an estimated 9,500 files on works of art, for an estimated collection of 30,000 objects.
A work file is both an archival file and a documentary file. Indispensable for the scientific team in charge of the collections and useful for any researcher, its purpose is to gather information concerning the history, studies, exhibitions, restorations, analogies, etc. of the work. It includes various types of documents, including the bibliography and photographs. The work file is subject to the disclosure rules of public archives.
Photographic campaigns are regularly organised to provide photographic coverage of the castle’s collections and spaces, in order to document them and contribute to their scientific promotion.
The photographic campaigns are mainly carried out by RMN-GP photographers, with the aim of compiling a universal photo library of reproductions from the collections of national museums. They make it possible to take photographs of new acquisitions and works presented at exhibitions and are intended to cover publication projects and, more generally, to document the collections.

Reports are also made by the CRES photographer, in order to monitor the activities of the castle and the collections and to preserve their memory.
