At different times of the year you can take horse-drawn carriage or train rides in the gardens, hire boats on the pond and discover the historic Jeu de Paume court.

Train rides

Explore the park at the château de Fontainebleau with the tourist train. An audioguide (French, French children’s version, English, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese) is available.

Duration : 35 minutes

  • From April to mid-November, every day (except Tuesday) School holidays: open every day
  • Departs from the Cour d’Honneur every hour from noon onwards.
  • Adults: €7 / Children 4-18 years: €3 (free – under 4 years)        More than 20 people: €5 / person.

Go boating on the Carp pond like the monarchs and their court loved to. Boat hire is available:

  • From May to August: every day
  • April, September, October: closed on Mondays and Tuesdays
  • Access via the Cour de la Fontaine, from 10:30am
  • 30 minutes: €5 per person
  • 1 hour: €8 per person
  • Free for children under 3

Horse-drawn carriages

You can find Les Attelages de la Forêt de Fontainebleau at the top of the Grand Parterre near the porte Dorée. They offer tours of the park every day.

20 minute ride with commentary (40 minutes by reservation only)

Jeu de paume

Come and discover our Jeu de Paume court which was, along with hunting, one of the favourite pastimes for members of the Court. Built under Henri IV, it still has its original limestone tile floor. Les Petites Bouches de l’Empereur

Every day throughout the year from 9:30 a.m. to the closing time of the château, the restaurant Les Petites Bouches de L’Empereur and its café, the Café des Mariniers, welcome us near the Carp pond.

Depending on the season, you can also take advantage of a large choice of on-site or take-out food for small and big eaters.

Opening hours

The chateau

The chateau is open every day except Tuesday, January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.

From October to March: 9.30 am to 5 pm (last access at 4.15 pm).

From April to September: 9.30 am to 6 pm (last access at 5.15 pm).

The park and gardens are open, under the usual conditions, free of charge.

The restaurant is open every day for lunch, except on Tuesday until April 7th.
