Self-guided tours

Your visit

Fontainebleau is the only château inhabited by every monarch from the 12th to the 19th century and the most beautifully furnished French royal palace. It features Renaissance masterpieces commissioned by Francis I, the lavishly decorated interiors of Marie Antoinette, the state apartment of Napoleon I, the styles preferred by Napoleon III and Eugenie… A royal residence for hunting and getting away from it all, it tells us all about the monarchs’ official and intimate court life.
  • The ticket for the château includes free entry to the Napoleon I Museum and the Grands Appartements and is valid all day.
  • Self-guided tours are possible every day (except Tuesday), from 9:30am to 4pm (5pm in summer), apart from Sunday afternoons and bank holidays.
  • There is a coach park on Boulevard Magenta, very close to the entrance to the château.
