Bust of Bonaparte – Boizot

Hand patinated reproduction. Mold made from a print of the original work. This ancient bronze event takes up one of the busts of Bonaparte that was published by the Sèvres manufactory. It was at the beginning of 1798 that Boizot, then chief artist of the manufactory, handed over the plaster model of General Bonaparte’s bust. Although Boizot certainly did not see Bonaparte, contemporary testimonies prove the great similarity of the work with the model: the long hair, the emaciated face are those of the young conqueror at the time of his return from the first campaign of Italy in December 1797. He wears the general’s uniform of the Republic embroidered with oak leaves and acorns. As early as 1800, Boizot made a bust of Bonaparte in Consul uniform for the Sèvres factory, slightly different from this copy.
